Tips and Information on the Safety Hazards, Precautions and Health Risks of your Laser Printer and Q6003a Toner Cartridge
Potential Shock Hazards
Due to local electrical safety code, most laser printers include circuit protection and electrical safeguards against potential electric shocks. There is a likelihood however, of the possibility for high voltage buildup on parts within the laser printer such as rollers, metal contacts and wires. Therefore it is recommended not to touch any of these electrical components in order to avoid potential painful electrical shock and damage to the laser printer.
Cleaning of the Laser Toner Cartridge
Avoid using a standard or home vacuum cleaner to service your cartridges or printer. There is a possibility that the dust in the vacuum cleaner bag could ignite due to the static charge contained in the toner particles. This could potentially cause a small explosion in the vacuum cleaner. This can happen because laser printer toner is designed with electrostatic properties. They are known to develop static-electric charges when they rub against other objects or particles. Toner can damage the vacuum cleaner and potentially start a fire. Also, toner particles can enter back into the room through the vacuum cleaner motor because standard vacuum filters are not fine enough to trap the particles. Toner particles also melt or fuse when warmed, and smaller toner spills can be wiped up with a damp, cold cloth.
Electrostatic discharge-safe vacuums are certified and safe for cleaning up leaks or spills in the laser printer. The ability of these vacuum cleaners to filter the tiny toner particles and eliminate static charges by their electrically conductive hose. makes them safe to use for toner clean-ups.
Clothing that is contaminated with toner can be easily cleaned with a normal wash cycle. Cold water wash and rinse is recommended for washing clothes due to the toners low melting point. Clothing washed in hot or warm water will result in unfortunate permanent stains. In order to increase the chances that the toner stain will be removed from your clothing, two cycle washing may become necessary. Drying or ironing the clothes should be avoided unless you are absolutely certain that no toner remains on the clothing.
Ozone Dangers and Risks
Inside all laser printers, oxygen and nitrogen are produced by high voltage. This forms ozone and nitrogen oxides. Large commercial laser printers and photocopiers employ a carbon filter that absorbs and breaks down these oxides to reduce pollution. Unfortunately, ozone filters do not come in smaller laser printers and the larger commercial printer filtration system does not remove all of the ozone pollution. Laser printers that run for long periods of time and are installed in poorly ventilated areas can cause high build up of ozone gases.
Possible Respiratory Risks
New studies from Australia indicate that respiratory diseases could be caused from the sub-micrometer gases emitted from laser printers. Styrene, ozone and xylenes concentrations have been detected by Japanese researchers in 2006 from laser printers. This same study also concluded that Ink-Jet printers also emit pentanol.
How to Replace Your New HP 2600n Toner Cartridges
When a toner cartridge for the HP 2600n is nearing its useful life, a message will display on the user control panel. The printer will still function normally until a message is displayed instructing the user to replace the cartridge.
The HP LaserJet 2600n uses four different colors for printing: black (K), cyan (C), magenta (M) and yellow (Y).
Its time to replace a toner cartridge when the control panel displays one of the following messages: replace black cartridge, replace yellow cartridge, replace cyan cartridge and replace magenta cartridge.
Steps on how to replace your Q6000a, Q6001a, Q6002a and Q6003a Toner Cartridges
- Open front door.
- Remove the used toner cartridge.
- Remove the new toner cartridge from the protective bag and place the old toner into the bag for recycling.
- Firmly hold the toner cartridge by the blue handles and gently rock the cartridge from side to side. This will distribute the toner evenly. CAUTION: DON’T TOUCH THE SURFACE OF THE ROLLER OR SHUTTER!
- Gently remove the shipping tape and orange shipping locks for the cartridge.
- Using the handles on the cartridge, align the toner cartridge with the tracks on the inside of the printer and insert until firmly seated.
- Close the front door. After a few seconds, the control panel should display Ready. PLEASE NOTE: IF ANY OF THE TONER CARTRIDGES ARE IN THE WRONG SLOT OR IF WRONG CARTRIDGE IS USED, ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MESSAGES WILL BE DESPLAYED ON THE CONTROL PANEL: Incorrect Black, Incorrect Cyan, Incorrect Magenta or Incorrect Yellow.
- The toner cartridge installation is now complete. Place the old cartridge into the shipping box and check for recycling instructions inside. Note: Whenever you replace a black toner cartridge, a cleaning page will be printed automatically. This helps to prevent speckling of the front or back of the printed page.
